I have struggled with on again/off again insomnia since I was a teenager.
Back then I would sit in bed for more hours on end & wouldn’t get my mind to quiet itself enough where I could finally drift off to sleep peacefully.
It never took long for myself and others to turn to diphenhydramine to use as a sleeping aid. I was already taking the OTC drugs for my chronic dust sensitivities, so at least it wasn’t just another sleep aid in my regimen. Some of the people who I knew closely in college grew resistant towards trying sleep aids out of fear that they wouldn’t be able to sleep without taking them. One of these kids wouldn’t even take melatonin capsules because she thought he’d develop a high tolerance to them in a matter of afternoons. Recently I’ve seen people using all sorts of herbs as sleep aids, including kava root & valerian root. However, I would never recommend someone use pure CBD oil as a sleep aid. Despite what some think, CBD oil by itself is not sedating. For some people, it feels like a stimulant at the psychoactive level. This melts away anxiety for some & pain for others. If you want a sedating hemp product, find CBD oil that features the terpene myrcene as an additive. Full spectrum CBD oils and other products are usually made from a strain-particular batch of hemp flowers & will contain whatever terpenes that were dominant for that particular strain. If you find a hemp strain with lots of myrcene inside with the CBD oil, the effects will be much more sedating than pure CBD by itself.
